Laura J. Margulies
Laura Margulies’ started her career in bankruptcy law in 1986 when she worked as a judicial intern for the Honorable James Schneider of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland, Baltimore Division. She received her J.D. from University of Baltimore School of Law in 1988, where she served as an Editor on the Law Review. After graduation, she clerked for The Honorable Paul Albert on the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. She then worked as an associate in the bankruptcy departments of two large law firms and taught bankruptcy law at the University of Maryland University College for several years.
In 1993, Ms. Margulies started her own firm which specialized in consumer bankruptcy law. She served as chairman of the Greenbelt Division of the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the District of Maryland and served two terms as a board member. She has also served on the Executive Committee of the Consumer Bankruptcy Section of the MSBA. She has published several articles on bankruptcy law in various legal and financial publications. In 2012 she was appointed as an interim Chapter 7 Trustee for the Greenbelt Division of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Ms. Margulies is a frequent lecturer on bankruptcy topics and is also a member of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees where she serves on its Legislative Committee.
